Nutrition
There is no doubt that eating a broad range of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains, nuts and pulses are beneficial. There is no need to be vegetarian but also keeping the amount of processed foods and fat laden meats down is a good idea.
There are some extreme diets around designed apparently to heal your body. i would advise caution when considering these. I tried the macrobiotic diet when i became ill and found it very unpleasant, so much so that I almost stopped eating as there was nothing I fancied. I met a man once who had cancer, he looked very ill and told me that one of the biggest losses he felt through his illness was the joy of eating his food, he had been put on a strict diet of special juices and hated it. Can something you hate so much do you good? Well, I don't think so, as i believe your thoughts and positive attitude directly affect your health.
Personally I hate the word "diet" simply because to most people it means depriving yourself. But I am amazed at the way people treat their bodies and expect them to not only survive but thrive.
If you were putting a formula one car on the track you would put the top grade fuel into the tank, keep the engine well lubricated and maintained, after all this car is a huge investment and you want it to perform well and hopefully win.
Your body is effectively the house you live in, so take good care of it. Your body, infact your whole system works night and day carrying out a myriad of functions in the blink of an eye. Why make its job harder but cluttering it up with junk. Work with your body to achieve optimum health. Give it the premium fuel it needs to do its job. to do that you need to have a balanced, varied diet.
There are vast numbers of books, programmes, magazines, articles, advisors and websites all giving information and nutritional guidelines. Read up about what your body needs, start experimenting with different foods and find out what your body likes best. Many people complain for instance that after eating sandwiches for lunch they feel sleepy or heavy in the afternoon. if this is true for you then opt for a salad or soup for lunch, leaving out bread, and notice how energised your body feels.
Your body will give you clues as to what is best for you.
keeping a food diary is really useful. Just do it for a week. Jot down everything you eat and drink in a day. Put absolutely everything down, do not judge yourself or what you are eating just write it down. If you get a chance at the end of the day also jot down how your day went and how you felt.
At the end of the week look over your diary. You may be suprised at what you see, perhaps the level of sweets, cakes and snacks is higher than expected. perhaps you are pleasantly suprised by what a balanced intake you had.
I am sure you already know how important water is for your overall health. There are currently concerns over bottled water, especially where a bottle has been left in a hot car as the chemicals in the bottle dissolve into the water. If you are concerned but wish to have your own water with you whilst you work during the day then use a glass bottle and replenish it from your own filtered water or even tap water if you live in an area with a good quality supply. Some testers have found that the quality and taste of the tap water was better than that of the bottled.
